REGION: Limestone Coast, South Australia, 2008 VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING: The grapes for this wine were sourced from vineyards planted on the ancient soils of the Limestone Coast. Previously a sea bed, these soils are terra rossa and sand over limestone and are perfect for premium red wines. 2008 was an early vintage with good ripening conditions in January and February, followed by some extreme heat in March. Disease pressures were low, but ripening was quite fast putting emphasis back on the winemakers to manage grape harvest timing carefully. Perfect integration of this wine was achieved with the 18 months spent in small oak barrels. The wine then had minimal handling prior to filtration and bottling at the Angove Family Estate. WINEMAKERS’ NOTES: Deep red colour with purple hues this is a medium-full bodied wine typical of its origins. Blackcurrant and mint on the nose combine beautifully with the plummy fruit fl avours apparent on the palate. Soft cigar box oak nuances finish the wine, leaving a lingering finish. An ideal food wine to be enjoyed with a variety of dishes including a roast leg of lamb, grilled steak with mushrooms or tomato based pasta dishes.
